Shillong, July 25: Swimming in Meghalaya just got a major upgrade. True North Leisure Centre, which revolutionised aquatic sports in the state seven years ago with its first heated indoor pool at Mission Compound, has now launched a world-class facility at Lapalang — one that promises to shape Meghalaya’s future in competitive swimming.
The new centre was officially inaugurated on Thursday evening by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma. Designed with elite sports training in mind, the Lapalang complex boasts a 25-metre multi-lane pool with varying depths from 3 to 6 feet, a separate training pool, and a dedicated children’s pool. It also features a modern gymnasium, steam room, hot tub, and a cardio track — making it one of the most comprehensive sports and wellness facilities in the region.
True North plans to scale up its swimming academy to develop a new generation of athletes who can compete at the national level within the next two years.
