KYIV, July 25: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Ukrainian forces are holding firm against Russia’s summer offensive, despite intense fighting along the front lines. He noted Russian troops have failed to make significant advances, though they’ve captured some small villages.
Ukrainian defenders repelled multiple incursions near Pokrovsk, eliminating sabotage groups. Zelenskyy said the situation in Sumy has improved and called for more Western support, including 10 Patriot missile systems—three already pledged.
He also expressed skepticism over peace talks, saying a summit with Russia is unlikely without a full agreement. Domestically, Zelenskyy supported recent anti-corruption protests, calling them “legitimate” and proposed legislation to restore watchdog independence.
He stressed unity is vital for Ukraine’s resilience and voiced optimism that parliament will pass the new bill on July 31, avoiding further unrest. Russia has also escalated attacks on Kharkiv, injuring dozens over two days. (AP)
