SHILLONG, July 28: The body of a 57-year-old man, identified as Charles Sohtun, was recovered from the Umjynkynrud Pond inside the protected forest at Law Mawpat.
The deceased was a water tanker driver who supplied water to households in the area.
The body was discovered floating in the pond by a youth, his father, and his younger brother who were planning to bathe their dog.
They immediately contacted Nongmensong police outpost, and the Mobile Forensic Crime Scene Unit was tasked with collecting exhibits and samples.
The inquest was conducted at the place of occurrence, and the seized exhibits were sent for analysis. According to the daughter of the deceased, her father left home on Sunday afternoon to collect water supply fees, but did not return. She added that her father had been suffering from chest pain for the last two days.
The body was shifted to the NEIGRIHMS morgue for post-mortem examination.
Police said the matter is under investigation, and a case has been registered.
