SHILLONG, July 28: A special POCSO court in East Khasi Hills on Monday sentenced one Stevenson Nongsiej (alias Steve) to seven years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 for an offence punishable under Section 4 of the POCSO Act.
In case of default in payment, the convict would undergo an additional four months of imprisonment.
The court also sentenced another Tuparsing Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi (alias Bah Duh) to three years and six months of imprisonment for an offence under Section 18 of the POCSO Act in connection with the same case.
According to the case details, the survivor was 16 years, 9 months and 2 days old when the offence was committed in 2015.
The court noted that the survivor continues to suffer from trauma as a result of the incident.
Taking into account the social background of the minor survivor and the need for rehabilitation, Special Judge (POCSO) MK Lyngdoh recommended that a compensation of Rs 2 lakh be provided to the survivor by the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority, Shillong.
The prosecution was conducted by Special Public Prosecutor Eva Rynjah, while the investigation was led by WPSI S Wanshong.
