HITO seeks installation of steel crash barriers along JH roads
JOWAI, July 29: The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO), Jowai circle, has aired concerns over road safety issues affecting commuters and tourists travelling through Jowai and Chyrmang village. In a formal letter addressed to the Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), South Jowai Division, the group highlighted the urgent need to install W-beam steel crash barriers along certain dangerous stretches of the road. It pointed out that these areas pose a serious risk of accidents if left unaddressed. HITO further urged the department to take swift and appropriate measures in the interest of public safety and to safeguard the lives of those who regularly use the route. HITO Jowai Circle general secretary, Deibormi Siangbood, has, meanwhile, expressed optimism that the department will give due attention to the complaint and work towards finding a practical and timely solution for the overall development and safety of the region.
Vehicle crashes into paddy field in Ri-Bhoi, none hurt
NONGPOH, July 29: A vehicle transporting pineapple on Tuesday veered off a road and crashed into a paddy field after the driver, identified as Soleman Khan, attempted to avoid an oncoming vehicle equipped with blinding LED lights near Iewmawlong, Ri-Bhoi. The mishap took place at around 2 am when the vehicle, bearing registration number AS01 RC3621, was reportedly en route from Marngar and headed towards Guwahati to deliver its pineapple consignment. Sources informed that whilse no injuries were reported in the incident, the vehicle sustained minor damages and a small portion of recently planted paddy was destroyed in the field where the vehicle landed.
Awareness programme on central scheme in city
SHILLONG, July 29: The Department of Labour, Employment & Skill Development, in association with EPFO, Regional Office, Shillong, conducted an awareness programme on the PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana on recently at the main conference hall of Meghalaya Secretariat, Shillong. According to a statement here, the session was chaired by the Principal Secretary of the Department of Labour, Employment & Skill Development. During the programme, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, EPFO, Shillong, K Hungyo, provided an overview of the scheme. His address was followed by a detailed PowerPoint presentation by the EPFO team, explaining various aspects of the scheme. The programme also included a question-and-answer session, during which key provisions of the scheme and the Employees’ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952, were discussed and deliberated upon. The event was attended by both employers and employees of major establishments including NEEPCO, MCAB, Ranger Security, Polo Towers Group, Nazareth Hospital and Mebaai Security and Service. Government officials from the Department of Labour, Employment & Skill Development, Directorate of Labour, Employment and Craftsmen Training and ESIC were also present on the occasion.
Resubelpara resident moves CM on issues concerning area
TURA, July 29: A resident of Resubelpara in North Garo Hills has urged Chief Minister Conrad sangma to look into various issues plaguing the area. Nicholas Nithin Sangma, a resident of Rangselgre village under Resubelpara submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister where he raised various issues from the area. In the memorandum, Sangma sought the construction of a PMGSY road from Boda A’pal Bazar to Dame A’pal and Raja A’pal Bazar Main Road via Rangselgre, installation of a mobile tower, creation of an Anganwadi centre, construction of a community hall as well as construction of a Playground all at Rangselgre village. A copy of the memorandum was also given to local MLA Timothy D Shira.
