Court convicts offenders in separate cases of assault, domestic violence

KHLIEHRIAT, July 31: The Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills, has convicted several individuals in separate cases related to domestic violence, physical assault, and road traffic accidents following detailed investigations and trials.
Husband convicted for wife, child’s assaulting
In a domestic violence case, the court convicted Morning War under Sections 352 and 323 of the IPC for attempting to strangle his three-year-old son and threatening to kill his wife, Teilang Supuh. The case was registered under Khliehriat PS Case No. 118(07)2019. He was sentenced to pay fines of Rs 500 for the assault (Section 352 IPC) and Rs 1,000 for causing hurt (Section 323 IPC).
Estranged husband jailed for domestic violence, intimidation
In a separate domestic abuse case, Bun Phawa was convicted under Sections 498A, 506, and 323 IPC for subjecting his estranged wife, Lutmon Dkhar, to cruelty, physical assault, and criminal intimidation. The court handed down a sentence of three years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 30,000 for cruelty (Section 498A IPC), five years and Rs 20,000 for criminal intimidation (Section 506 IPC), and one year for causing hurt (Section 323 IPC).
Assailant fined for assaulting civilian
In another case of physical assault, Sanki Lamurong was convicted under Sections 352 and 323 IPC for assaulting Neini Bareh in September 2019. He was fined Rs 400 for using criminal force and Rs 900 for causing hurt.
Road accident cases
In a 2019 case involving a head-on collision near Myngkseh Bridge, the court found Shainingstar Dkhar guilty under Sections 279 and 337 IPC for negligent driving. He was fined Rs. 1,000 for rash driving and Rs. 500 for causing hurt due to negligence.
In a more severe incident from 2020, Jrewel Pale, driver of a Maruti Gypsy, was found guilty of causing a fatal accident at Moopala village that resulted in two deaths and one injury.
The court convicted him under Sections 279 and 304A IPC, sentencing him to six months of rigorous imprisonment for rash driving and one year for causing death by negligence.
In another tragic road accident reported in 2019, a seven-year-old girl was fatally hit by a speeding tanker in Umkiang. The driver, Bikash Das, was found guilty under Sections 279 and 304A IPC.
The court sentenced him to six months of rigorous imprisonment for rash driving and two years for causing death by negligence.
All cases were thoroughly investigated by the East Jaintia Hills police under the supervision of designated investigating officers, and charge sheets were filed before the court following due procedure.
