SHILLONG, July 31: The KSU on Thursday shut down alleged illegal houses, ashrams, and hotels in the Mahadev Khola temple complex, while demanding immediate eviction of illegal settlers from there.
During an inspection, the KSU’s Upper Shillong and Laban Circle found illegal construction inside the temple complex.
KSU leader Reuben Najiar stated that the union has no objection to the temple, but questioned the construction of 30 illegal houses, ashrams, and hotels.
He recalled that the KSU had petitioned the concerned authorities on the matter in 2023 and it was assured that a report would be submitted within three months but several illegal construction have taken place since then.
Asserting that the Union will not stop at shutting down of the illegal structure, he said that all the people staying there illegally must be evicted.
Informing that the area does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Lawsohtun or the Upper Shillong Dorbar Shnong, the KSU questioned how people living there were issued ration cards and EPICs without verification of their genuineness.
