SHILLONG, July 31: A day after only Congress MLA in state, Ronnie V Lyngdoh, deserted the grand-old party and joined the NPP, the Congress has called NPP an expert at poaching. The Congress has however ruled out any action against the former party MLA.
“It is not surprising as we knew the plan was on,” MPCC working president Deborah Marak said, adding that the NPP with their money and muscle power have become experts in poaching.
She also stated that the recent episode of Lyngdoh shifting his allegiance to NPP will not attract provisions of anti-defection law as he was the lone MLA and has even submitted his resignation papers to the party. “The best answer to them will be given by the public during elections,” she remarked.
After Lyngdoh’s exit, the Congress party has been wiped out in Meghalaya.
Last year, three Congress MLAs — Celestine Lyngdoh (Umsning constituency), Charles Marngar (Mawhati), and Gabriel Wahlang (Nongstoin) — had joined the NPP leaving Ronnie V Lyngdoh to become the last MLA of the Congress in Meghalaya. However, his sudden resignation and shift to the NPP on Wednesday shocked the state.
