NONGPOH, Aug 1: Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun has expressed serious concern over the alleged misuse of Queens Hotel, located at Jorabat, following complaints from residents about suspected illegal operations being carried out within its premises.
According to the MLA, several members of the public have reported that the hotel is being used as a venue for unauthorised nightclub and gambling activities.
These allegations, he said, stem from frequent sightings of high-end vehicles parked outside the hotel on weekends—particularly on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays—leading many to suspect that illegal activities may be taking place under the guise of hospitality services.
In response, Sohtun said he has already taken up the matter with the Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, urging the district administration and police authorities to carry out a thorough inspection of the premises to ascertain the facts and take necessary action against any unlawful operations.
The MLA has, meanwhile, reiterated the need to safeguard the integrity and wellbeing of the constituency and emphasised that any form of illegal business would not be tolerated.
