Woman kills 6-month-old son after both test positive for HIV
MUMBAI, Aug 1: A 43-year-old woman allegedly killed her six-month-old son by smothering him with a pillow over financial constraints since both of them had tested positive for HIV, a police official said on Friday.The incident came to light on Thursday evening, when the accused woman, who was working at a garment unit at Govandi, had a scuffle with her colleague and had pulled out a knife to attack the latter, he said.“A police team rushed there after being alerted about the scuffle. While being questioned, the woman told police she had killed her six-month-old son as she was unable to raise him due to her poor financial condition. The woman said she and her son had tested HIV positive,” the official said.“She confessed to smothering him with a pillow in a cradle at her residence. A police team that went to her house found the child lying motionless in the cradle. The infant was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The woman has been booked for murder,” he said. (PTI)

Two tribal men tied, assaulted for eloping with women
GODHRA, (Gujarat) Aug 1: Two tribal men were kidnapped, tied to a tree and thrashed allegedly by a group of people for eloping with two women with whom they were in a relationship in Gujarat’s Panchmahal district, police said on Friday.The two women were also assaulted by their relatives and local villagers, they said.Ten persons were arrested in connection with the incident which was captured on camera.A video showing the two persons tied to a tree with a rope and being beaten up by a group of people with fists and sticks was shared widely on social media platform, prompting police investigation into the matter.The victims said they were kidnapped by the arrested accused, some of whom were relatives of the women with whom they were in a relationship. The women’s relatives were angered at the duo for eloping with them. The duo was kidnapped and brought in a vehicle to Tadva village where the two were tied to the tree and beaten up. (PTI)

Man kills wife at lover’s behest, tries to pass it off as robbery
BAREILLY, Aug 1: In a chilling incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district, a man allegedly killed his wife at the behest of his lover and tried to pass it off as a robbery, police said.Om Saran (38), the accused, has been arrested and so is the co-accused. After inconsistencies in Saran’s initial statement raised red flags, his call records were checked which revealed that he was in regular touch with Mannat, prompting police to dig deeper. The accused initially told the police that on the night of July 31, he was returning home with his wife Amarvati on a motorcycle when they were attacked near Kanthari village by 3-4 unidentified men, who looted their cash and jewellery and fatally assaulted his wife.Saran claimed that the attackers stole Amarvati’s mangalsutra, gold earrings, and about Rs 10,000 in cash before fleeing. Upon rigorous questioning, he admitted that he secretly married Mannat, who pressured him to eliminate his wife if he wanted to continue their relationship. (PTI)
