KOLKATA, Aug 1: West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya on Friday lambasted the TMC government, accusing it of orchestrating a “dangerous conspiracy” to include illegal immigrants, including Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas, in the state’s electoral rolls in a desperate bid to cling to power.
Addressing a press conference, Bhattacharya alleged that the TMC was “hearing its own death knell” and had resorted to shielding infiltrators and threatening Booth Level Officers to ensure that bogus voters are retained in the rolls.
“From Barasat to Madhyamgram, fake voter cards have been issued to Bangladeshi nationals with the active involvement of local TMC leaders. BLOs are being intimidated to ensure that not a single bogus name is removed. This is not governance; this is desperation,” Bhattacharya said.Claiming that the TMC’s vote-bank politics has far-reaching consequences, Bhattacharya said the fallout is now affecting Bengali migrant workers across the country.Calling the TMC a “regime of institutional loot and unbridled corruption,” he claimed the ruling party had failed on every front- from economy to environment – and was now trying to manipulate voter rolls to stay afloat.
