SHILLONG, Aug 2: Curtain came down on the three-day orientation programme of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Shillong, for the incoming class of 2025 on Thursday.
The event, which culminated on Friday, aimed to familiarise over 100 newly enrolled students of undergraduate design and postgraduate fashion management programmes with the institute’s academic and social landscape.
As a warm welcome, drawing and stationery kits—sponsored by Union Bank of India, Shillong—were distributed to the freshers to help them begin their academic journey.
The orientation included guided campus tours and informal interactions with faculty, seniors, and administrative staff.
Campus Academic Coordinator, Tshering Dolkar Bhutia, conducted introductory sessions explaining NIFT’s academic departments, course structure, policies, craft cluster initiatives, industry partnerships, and international linkages. Dr Natalie J. Diengdoh, Student Development Activities Coordinator (SDAC), briefed students on co-curricular clubs and activities, while also outlining student support systems such as assistantship programmes, scholarships, and subsidies.
To help the students connect with local culture and their new environment, a sightseeing tour was organised around Shillong.
The orientation programme culminated in a lively cultural evening at the open-air theatre where students showcased their acting, dancing and musical talents.
