One cop, three militants killed in Pak ambush

PESHAWAR, Aug 3: A group of nearly 50 militants ambushed a police checkpost in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, killing one law enforcement personnel and three terrorists. The attack occurred in the Bannu district, where a group of 40 to 50 terrorists had attacked the checkpost. Police retaliated, resulting in the death of one policeman and three attackers, while the rest managed to flee. Two police constables were injured in the incident. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack and paid tribute to the slain policeman. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. In recent months, several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have experienced a series of militant attacks. (PTI)

Indian drowns in Nepal river; body found

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: The body of an Indian man who drowned in Nepal’s Bagmati River was recovered on Sunday from an irrigation canal in southern Terai plains, according to a media report. Rohit Kumar Singh, 30, a resident of Khagaria district of Bihar, had entered the Bagmati river to bathe at Nunthar in Chandrapur Municipality around 2:40 pm on Saturday after consuming alcohol, The Himalayan Times said, quoting local police. Singh went missing shortly after, the police said. A joint rescue team of the Armed Police Force’s Disaster Response Unit and local police found Singh’s body around 10:25 am on Sunday in the Bagmati irrigation canal in Gujara Municipality, the Rautahat DSP Deepak Kumar Rai. His body was handed over to the family after postmortem. (PTI)

Ex-soldier wanted for killing four in Montana bar

ANACONDA (US), Aug 3: A manhunt for a military veteran suspected of fatally shooting four people at a bar in Montana has continued for a second day without a capture. Michael Paul Brown, 45, fled The Owl Bar in Anaconda, a small town with around 9,000 people. The search was focused on an area off Stumptown Road west of Anaconda, including multiple local, state, and federal agencies. Authorities have released a photo of Brown, barefoot and wearing nothing but black shorts, as he fled after the shooting. Brown served in the Army as an armour crewman from 2001 to 2005 and deployed to Iraq from 2004 until 2005. He was in the Montana National Guard from 2006 to 2009 and left military service at the rank of sergeant. A lockdown of the Stumptown Road area was lifted on Saturday. (AP)
