JOWAI, Aug 4: A notorious drug supplier identified as Milton Chakraborty (34) alias “Lucky” was apprehended by a joint team of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and the West Jaintia Hills Police on Monday, and over 50 grams of heroin was also recovered from their possession.
On the night of Sunday, the ANTF received intelligence inputs about the movement of two individuals — Milton Chakraborty and Kasimuddin, both residents of Shillong — traveling from Silchar to Shillong on an MTC Night Super Bus, carrying suspected illegal narcotics.
The ANTF promptly coordinated with Jowai Police and a naka was set up at Jowai.
At approximately 4 am on Sunday, the bus bearing registration number ML-03-0189 was intercepted at Mihmyntdu, Soomer.
Upon conducting a search, two soap cases containing suspected heroin were recovered from the possession of Kasimuddin — one from his front pocket and another concealed in his undergarments. Further, three soap cases wrapped in black plastic were recovered from the undergarments of Chakraborty.
The recovered substance tested positive for heroin, weighing a total of 52.02 grams.
The contraband was sealed and seized in presence of two independent witnesses.
Further investigation is under way to establish forward and backward linkages of the drug supply network.
