NONGPOH, Aug 4: The Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Shillong, successfully conducted a three-day Tourism Awareness Training Programme for homestay operators from across Ri-Bhoi. The training, which was held from July 29 to 31, was organised with the support of the Tourism department.
A total of 52 participants took part in the first batch of the training programme, representing various villages and communities within the district. The objective was to build capacity and improve service delivery among homestay operators, promoting quality rural tourism and enhancing the guest experience in the state. Throughout the three days, the participants were engaged in intensive training sessions covering a diverse range of hospitality and tourism-related subjects. These included understanding the importance of tourism, practicing safe and honourable tourism, developing essential homestay management skills, and learning about front office and housekeeping operations. The programme also focused on the marketing of indigenous cuisine and improving local dishes through menu planning and plating techniques. Sessions on the safety and security of guests, recruitment and selection of staff, as well as fire safety and emergency response measures were also conducted.
