SHILLONG, Aug 4: In a proud moment for the state, a Class XII passed student from North Liberty Higher Secondary School, Jowai, Mendelson Langstang, has achieved a remarkable feat by clearing the prestigious JEE Advanced Exam 2025.
He secured an impressive 424th position in the All India ST ranking, and his outstanding performance earned him a coveted seat for B.Tech at the renowned Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M).
Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, while congratulating the young achiever, said that the state’s decision to adopt NCERT textbooks is beginning to yield positive results, as more students from Meghalaya are now qualifying for national-level competitive exams.
He recalled that even last year, Johnathon Sangma had cracked the JEE Advanced and secured admission to IIT Mumbai. The Minister expressed happiness that students from the state are now performing significantly better in such examinations.
Acknowledging that only a few small coaching centres currently exist in the state, he emphasized the need to establish more training institutes, particularly to support UPSC aspirants from Meghalaya.
Meanwhile, the Minister also informed that the government is fully prepared to start classes at the Captain Williamson Sangma State University. He noted that the university has received an overwhelming number of applications from students.
Additionally, the government has announced admissions for four departments at the university’s Shillong campus. For now, the university is operating from the temporary premises of the Shillong Engineering College.
