SHILLONG, Aug 5: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday refrained from confirming or denouncing the rumours of an imminent Cabinet reshuffle, as the MDA 2.0 Government approaches its mid-term mark.
“I have no comments right now. When the time is appropriate, if there is anything, I will definitely let it known,” Sangma said, while reacting to queries on a possible reshuffle.
The speculation has sparked discussions within the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), a coalition partner that currently holds a single Cabinet berth through Shakliar Warjri, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs.
HSPDP insiders acknowledged that the party is deliberating how to equally share its Cabinet opportunity between its two MLAs. Methodius Dkhar, the second HSPDP legislator, is also keen on serving in the Cabinet as well, with party voices highlighting that responsibilities should be fairly rotated.
The possibility of a reshuffle has sparked fresh interest across other partners in the ruling alliance, including the BJP, UDP, and even the NPP itself.
Although no formal communication has been issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, many believe the reshuffle could take shape by August-end.
The MDA leadership has kept its cards close to the chest, refusing to make any definitive statement on the matter.
With the coalition’s halfway milestone approaching, the coming months could see heightened political manoeuvring as leaders balance internal demands, maintain stability, and manage expectations within their parties.
For now, the Chief Minister’s reserved stance has done little to dampen the political curiosity swirling around what may well become a defining moment for the MDA Government.
Earlier, the CM clarified that no pre-conditions were set by either Ronnie V. Lyngdoh or Hamletson Dohling, about who would contest the Mylliem seat on an NPP ticket in the next elections.
Sangma pointed out that Ronnie had joined the NPP without demands, and Hamletson had accepted the development with equal clarity and without attaching any conditions.
