TURA, Aug 7: As a step forward in bridging the digital divide among rural students and empowering them with access to quality education, South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Hema Nayak along with BDO Rerapara, Armand Ch Momin inaugurated the Digital Learning Hub at Mellim Higher Secondary school under Rerapara C&RD Block of the district on Thursday.
The Digital Learning Hub is a CSR initiative by GHE Global Human Expedition with PA Sangma Foundation, Mellim HS School as the first school in South West Garo Hills to benefit from this initiative. The Hub is set up with 10 computers with preloaded study materials and videos without the need for Internet connectivity. Additionally to counter the erratic nature of power supply in the area, solar UPS was installed with the capacity to power all ten devices together continuously.
In her address on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak urged the students to make use of the facilities provided by this initiative and to develop a scientific mindset. Stating that it was a matter of pride for the school to be the first beneficiary of such a wondeful venture, she encouraged students to make good use of the Hub and develop their standard of education.
On the other hand, BDO Armand Ch Momin expressed his delight that of late a lot of good things were happening in the area and said this initiative is one of the many examples. The school stands to benefit from it he said and urged the teachers to make use of weekends to provide additional learning to the students who may not be familiar with the use of computers.
With the Digital Learning Hub in the school, the students of area are set to experience a whole new learning process with enhanced digital learning capacity to bring them at par with their counterparts across the State.
