EKH District Badminton Championship 2025 kicks off

Shillong, Aug 7:The much-anticipated East Khasi Hills District Open Badminton Championship 2025 got underway today at the J.N. Indoor Stadium, Polo, Shillong. Organised by the East Khasi Hills District Badminton Association (EKHDBA), the tournament drew a total of 103 participants across sub-junior, junior, and senior categories.
With 133 entries registered, the event will witness a total of 114 matches spread across several days of exciting competition.
The tournament was officially inaugurated by Olan Sing Suin, Honourable MLA of Mawsynram Constituency, who lauded the efforts of the EKHDBA for their consistent initiative in organising the annual event. In his address, he highlighted the importance of such tournaments in nurturing local talent and promoting the sport of badminton in the region. He also assured his continued support and cooperation to the association in its future endeavours.
Present at the opening ceremony were C.O. Ryngad, Adviser, EKHDBA; P. Rapsang, President, EKHDBA; G.S. Kharbuli, Vice President, EKHDBA; along with other members and officials of the association.
As the tournament unfolds over the coming days, players across all age groups will battle it out on the courts, aiming for glory and experience. With over a hundred matches lined up, the championship not only promises thrilling badminton action but also reflects the growing passion for the sport in East Khasi Hills.
Organised with the aim of nurturing young talent and promoting grassroots development, the district-level championship has brought together schools and local clubs under one roof.
