Kamali, Shrishti exit as women’s campaign ends in Asian Surfing
CHENNAI, Aug 7: India’s campaign in the Open Women’s category ended with the exit of Kamali Moorthy and Shrishti Selvam on the fourth day of the Asian Surfing Championships here on Thursday.Kamali scored 5.57 points to finish third in heat 3 of Round 3 behind Sumomo Sato of Japan (11.47 points) and Siqi Yang of China (7 points).In heat 2 of Round 3, Shrishti finished fourth with 3.03 points behind Isabel Higgs of Thailand (12), Wan-Yu Chen of Taipei (5.67) and Nilbie Blancada of Philippines (5).The top two surfers will enter quarterfinal directly while the two bottom-placed surfers will be eliminated from the competition.Earlier, the Open Women’s Repechage Round 2 brought a glimmer of hope for India.Shrishti (4.66) and Kamali (8.70) entered the Round 3 through the Repechage rounds. But Sugar Shanti, despite a promising start, was unable to back up her opening ride and exited the competition.However, in the under-18 section, Prahlad Sriram of India moved to Round 3 after finishing second in the Repechage round.He scored 4.60 points and was behind heat leader Aydin Kayani of Singapore, who logged 5.64 points. Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra win in Junior Women hockey Nationals
KAKINADA, (Andhra Pradesh) Aug 7: Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra won their respective games while Punjab drew against Chandigarh in the Division A league matches of the Junior Women National Hockey Championship here on Thursday.Chhattisgarh defeated Karnataka 6-1 with Madhu Sidar (6’, 29’, 39’, 51’) scoring four goals, while Sheetal Yadav (48’) and Manisha Patel (41’) slotted home a goal each. Vyshnavi Arul (12’) scored the lone goal for Karnataka.Maharashtra beat Andhra Pradesh 5-1, with Sanjana Raikwar (22’, 52’) and Sanika Chandrakant Mane (17’, 57’) scoring two goals each, while Sanjana Deshya Khetawat (13’) was also on target.Punjab had a close game against Chandigarh, with the former taking the lead through Pawanpreet Kaur (32’). Chandigarh’s Priyanka (58’) equalised in the dying minutes.Uttar Pradesh also played out a 1-1 draw against Bengal. Scotland qualify for the Men’s U-19 Cricket World Cup 2026
DUNDEE, (Scotland) Aug 7: Scotland will take part in the ICC U19 Men’s World Cup after defeating the Netherlands by 20 runs in the final Europe Qualifier.Chasing 238 for a World Cup spot, the Netherlands were well-placed at 108/3 despite losing two early wickets to Finlay Jones (4/41), who was the main architect of the Scotland win.Off-spinner Manu Saraswat (3/43) arrested the runflow of the visitors and Ollie Jones removed the crucial wicket of Tom De Leede (67), who was threatening to run away with the match. Fittingly, Jones grabbed the final Dutch wicket as they were bowled out for 217, which enabled the qualification of Scotland.Captain Thomas Knight expressed his relief and happiness in a close encounter.Scotland remained unbeaten in the tournament and will head to the main event set to be held in January 2026 in Zimbabwe and Namibia. Karen Khachanov outlasts Alexander Zverev to reach final
TORONTO, Aug 7: Eleventh-seeded Karen Khachanov of Russia outlasted top-seeded Alexander Zverev of Germany 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (4) to reach the National Bank Open Open final.The 29-year-old Khachanov, a seven-time winner on the ATP Tour, will face the winner of the all-American second semifinal between second-seeded Taylor Fritz and fourth-seeded Ben Shelton. Zverev, the 2017 champion with 24 tour titles, is ranked third in the world. He ended up the top seed with top-ranked Jannik Sinner – the 2023 winner – and No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz skipping the hard-court tournament. ”I had to dig deep and lift my level,” Khachanov said. ”It was a very demanding, very mental, very physical match.
