Shillong, Aug 8: The United Democratic Party (UDP) Central Executive Committee (CEC) on Friday unanimously appointed party working president Titosstarwell Chyne as the new general secretary.
The post had been lying vacant since the resignation of former general secretary Jemino Mawthoh.
Speaking to reporters, UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh said that the CEC members, in complete agreement, endorsed Chyne’s appointment.
“It was with the consent of every single member that we arrived at this decision,” Lyngdoh stated.
In his remarks, Chyne expressed gratitude to the CEC for entrusting him with the role. He said his immediate priority would be to strengthen the party, noting that its functioning had faced setbacks in recent months following Mawthoh’s resignation.
“I will work to ensure a close and cordial relationship between the party’s MLAs and its leadership,” Chyne added.
