NONGPOH, Aug 7: In an early-morning incident, a truck (ML05G2651) carrying an overloaded consignment of brooms overturned on National Highway-6 near Umran, Ri-Bhoi district, damaging two roadside shops.
The accident, which occurred around 3 am, was reportedly caused by the driver’s inability to control the heavily loaded truck. As a result, the vehicle veered off course and overturned, crashing into a tea shop and a tyre repair store.
Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported, as the shops were unoccupied at the time of the incident.
However, the damage to property was significant, with machinery and other items inside the shops completely destroyed.
Meanwhile, Banister Kharbikhiew, the owner of the damaged shops, expressed relief that the incident occurred at a time when no one was inside. “Had this happened during business hours, the consequences could have been tragic,” he stated.
