TURA, Aug 8: The A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM), Bajendoba Regional Unit, on Friday raised safety and security concerns faced by residents of Borojora and Sualmari, located in the sensitive Meghalaya–Assam border under North Garo Hills District and urged concerned authorities to set up a police Outpost in the area.
A memorandum on the issue was recently also submitted to Chief minister Conrad Sangma, AHAM said.
“The demand has become more urgent in view of the recent eviction drives conducted by the Assam Government, which have heightened insecurity and fear among indigenous communities living in these vulnerable areas. The absence of police infrastructure here has created a serious law-and-order gap, leaving the population exposed,” AHAM president Kollingwath Sangma said.
