Udaipur Files, a Vijay Raaz-starrer, has been released in 4,500 cinemas across India after receiving approval from the censor board. The film is based on the murder of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Kumar, who was killed for allegedly sharing a social media post in support of Indian politician and Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Nupur Sharma. Kanhaiya Kumar’s son, Yash Sahu, said that the movie serves as a message that such incidents can be brought to the country through cinematic graphics.
Despite facing numerous challenges, including a stay in the High Court Delhi, a Supreme Court challenge, and a Supreme Court decision, the Central Government finally decided to release the movie. The film was initially slated for release on July 11, 2025, but faced delays due to censorship and legal troubles.
Kanhaiya Lal’s wife Jasoda Sahu wrote a letter to the Prime Minister appealing for permission to release it, stating that the film is a true reflection of their family’s pain and struggle and should be seen by the entire country. The assailants had also released a video claiming that the murder was in reaction to the tailor’s alleged social media post in support of former BJP member Nupur Sharma.
In conclusion, Udaipur Files is a powerful film that highlights the injustices faced by individuals and communities in Pakistan. It serves as a reminder that such incidents can be brought to the forefront through cinematic graphics and can be brought to the attention of the public. (IANS)
