Shillong, Aug 8: The UDP on Friday appointed Titosstarwell Chyne as the new general secretary, following the resignation of former general secretary Jemino Mawthoh in May.
UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh stated that the CEC members endorsed Chyne’s appointment.
Chyne expressed gratitude to the CEC for entrusting him with the role and stressed on the importance of strengthening the party. He also pledged to ensure a close relationship between the party’s MLAs and leadership.
During the CEC meeting, the party also discussed the issue of cabinet reshuffle among UDP legislators. The UDP currently holds two cabinet berths in the NPP-led coalition government, occupied by Paul Lyngdoh and Kyrmen Shylla.
With the MDA Government nearing the halfway mark in its second term, there is growing speculation that the UDP may consider rotating its cabinet representation among its MLAs.
Lyngdoh clarified that the matter was not deliberated at length and that the meeting was not the appropriate forum for such a discussion.
