Hit-and-run in Ri-Bhoi kills 19-year-old

NONGPOH, Aug 10: A 19-year-old youth from Barigaon village lost his life in a suspected hit-and-run incident in Western Ri-Bhoi in the early hours of Sunday.
According to police sources, the victim, identified as Giten Patho, was travelling from Assam to his native village of Barigaon on a scooty (AS25Z9834) when the accident occurred around 2 am near Iewsohksang.
It is suspected that Patho’s scooty collided with a truck bearing registration number AS25FC1660. The truck reportedly fled the scene but was later intercepted and detained at the Byrnihat Police Outpost.
The injured youth was rushed to the Patharkhmah Community Health Centre, where the attending medical officer declared him dead on arrival.
After completing the necessary formalities, police handed over the body to the family. An investigation into the incident is under way.
