SHILLONG, Aug 10: The state government will soon implement 20 major road projects in Meghalaya with funding from the World Bank.
Under the second phase of the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project (MITP), the World Bank has sanctioned Rs 2,500 crore for these projects, which aim to improve transport connectivity, enhance efficiency, and strengthen transport sector management in the state. Officials believe the initiative will help unlock Meghalaya’s potential in high-value agriculture and tourism.
One of the key projects involves widening the 50-km stretch from Weiloi to Mawkyrwat up to Keniong. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this road is currently being prepared.
“Once the DPR is ready, we hope to invite tenders by February next year, with construction expected to begin by April,” the CM stated.
The Weiloi–Mawkyrwat–Keniong road is considered a vital link between East Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills.
