NONGPOH, Aug 11: A 14-year-old boy from Nongthymmai, Umsning, died in a drowning incident on Monday afternoon during school break.
Sources said the boy, a student of Umsning Town Dorbar Secondary School, was spending the lunch break with three classmates, all aged between 12 and 13, in a nearby area.
Details of how he drowned remain unclear, but he was quickly taken to the Umsning CHC, where the attending medical officer confirmed his death.
Sources also said the family, convinced that the death was accidental, chose not to have a post-mortem examination carried out. Local authorities granted permission for the body to be released to the family for funeral rites later in the day.
