ISLAMABAD, Aug 14: Pakistan has announced the creation of the Army Rocket Force Command, equipped with modern technology, to strengthen its combat capabilities.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the formation at an event to mark the 79th Independence Day and commemorate the recent four-day military confrontation with India.
The force is inspired by China’s People’s Liberation Army Rocket Force, which controls an arsenal of land-based ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missiles.
The announcement came days after Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir’s nuclear threat against India from US soil and former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s remarks that if India forces Pakistan into war, the nation will not back down.
The military confrontation between Pakistan and India in May was a “major victory” and credited Pakistan’s nuclear capability as a strategic necessity in response to India’s atomic power. (PTI)
