Two city colleges launch new PG programmes

SHILLONG, Aug 14: Two Shillong-based colleges have launched new postgraduate programmes, during separate events here.
According to a statement, St. Mary’s College inaugurated its Master’s Programme in Home Science – Human Development on Tuesday, becoming the first institute in the state to offer a Master’s degree in the discipline.
The on-campus launch was attended by Dr. Mayashree B. Syiem, Chairperson of Home Science at North-Eastern Hill University, as the chief guest.
During the launch event, Dr. Syiem lauded the initiative for addressing the growing academic and societal need for expertise in human development, while college president Baiahunlang Nongkhlaw enlightened the gathering about the importance of expanding higher education opportunities.
On the other hand, Women’s College, Shillong, on Monday launched its first postgraduate programmes in Education and Sociology.
The launch event was attended by Cabinet Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh as the chief guest, who, in her addressed, spoke about the transformative power of education. ”An educated woman transforms communities,” she said.
She emphasised the vital connection between knowledge and societal progress, noting that disciplines like Education and Sociology are central to shaping inclusive and informed societies.
