After wife leaves him, man murders their two children, hangs self
VALSAD, Aug 16 : A man allegedly murdered his two differently-abled children and then hanged himself in Silvassa in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu after his wife left him recently, police said on Saturday.Sunil Bhakare (56) strangled 18-year-old Jay and 10-year-old Arya with a rope before hanging himself at his rented house.“Prima facie it appears the man first poisoned his two children before strangling them. His wife left him some two weeks back and he had to take care of his children, which likely drove him to take this drastic step.” the official said. (PTI)
Woman jumps into river with 3-year-old daughter
AHMEDABAD, Aug 16: A woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Sabarmati River here along with her three-year-old daughter.The woman drowned while the toddler was rescued alive but died during treatment at a hospital on Friday night, an official said.Pinki Rawat (38) jumped into the river along with her daughter.A local rescue team fished out the duo, with the child alive and still clinging to the mother’s body, he said.She later died during treatment, the official said. Man burnt alive by family over land feud
BHBANESWAR, Aug 16: Initial reports of a self-immolation bid by a 42-year-old man in Odisha’s Khurda district has allegedly turned out to be a case of a cold-blooded murder, with police arresting three members of the victim’s family on Saturday.The deceased, identified as Jyotiranjan Mathia, succumbed to burn injuries at AIIMS Bhubaneswar a day after being admitted.According to the FIR filed by his wife, Jyotiranjan’s father, stepmother, and stepbrother – along with others – allegedly poured petrol on him and set him ablaze on Friday.The motive is believed to be a longstanding family property dispute, police said. The accused were identified as Jyotiranjan’s father Surendranath Mathia (74), stepmother Pravati Mathia (57), and stepbrother Prasant Kumar Mathia (34). (PTI)
Five killed in fire accident at plastic articles unit in Bengaluru
BENGALURU, Aug 16: Five people, including a family of four, were charred to death after a fire broke out at a plastic articles manufacturing unit in Nagarthapet here, police said.Police have identified the victims as Madan Singh (38) and Sangeetha (33) and their two children Mithesh (7) and Vihaan (5) and neighbour Suresh Kumar (26).Madan Singh was a native of Rajasthan and had been renting the building for nearly 10 years. He ran a small manufacturing unit that made plastic kitchen items as well as mats and steel kitchen utensils. He was residing on the top floor of the building.Police said most likely an electric short circuit could have triggered the fire.The fire started on the ground floor and then spread to the second and third floors. The room on the third floor, where the bodies of the woman and the two children were found, was locked from outside, he said. (PTI)
