JALANDHAR, Aug 16: Karnataka, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab won their respective Division A matches in the Hockey India Junior Men National Championship, here on Saturday.Karnataka registered a 10-1 win over Andhra Pradesh with Harpal (12’, 35’) and Tanish Ramesh Hulakund (17’, 56’) scoring two goals each, while captain Dhruva BS (25’), Achaiah MM (24’), Kushal Bopaiah CB (51’), Raju Manoj Gayakwad (5’), Nitesh Sharma (10’) and Poojith K R (58’) scored a goal each.Haryana defeated Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu Hockey 3-0 with Nitin (19’), Chirag (58’) and Sunil (59’) scoring a goal each.Uttar Pradesh Hockey crushed Maharashtra 9-2 with Ujjwal Pal (17’, 26’) and Mithalesh Yadav (8’, 57’) scoring two goals each while Satyam Pandey (56’), Fahad Khan (25’), Akash Pal (53’), Manoj Yadav (60’) and Venvanshi Triloki (6’) scored the other goals for the winners.Hosts Punjab thrashed Tamil Nadu 8-4 with Amandeep (21’, 29’), Lovenoor Singh (43’, 52’), Charanjeet Singh (5’), Jobanpreet Singh (53’, 54’) and captain Gursewak Singh (44’) on target. Squash player Anahat enters NSW Bega Open final
BEGA, (Australia) Aug 16: Teenage Indian squash player Anahat Singh overcame strong challenge from Egypt’s Nour Khafagy to enter the final of the NSW Bega Open 2025, here on Saturday.The 17-year-old double Asian Games bronze medallist, who became the youngest Indian to win a medal in the continental showpiece, won the gruelling semifinal 3-2 (10-12, 11-5, 11-5, 10-12, 11-7) in 54 minutes.The top-seeded Anahat, who became the first Indian woman to reach a PSA Copper final, will take on another Egyptian, Habiba Hani, in the title showdown of the USD 25,000 event.Habiba, seeded second, defeated fifth-seeded Indian Akanksha Salunkhe 3-1 (11-9, 7-11, 12-10, 11-6) in 42 minutes.Anahat picked up an injury during the match but she continued to fight against her Egyptian opponent, who recently won the HCL Tournament.Anahat, who hails from Delhi and was the youngest member of the Indian contingent for the 2022 Commonwealth Games at just 14 years of age, had defeated South Africa’s Hayley Ward 3-0 (11-4, 11-9, 14-12) in the quarterfinals.Anahat has won 12 PSA titles from 18 events, with nine of those victories coming in the last 12 months.Akanksha beat fourth-seeded Australian Alexandra Haydon 3-0 (11-4, 11-7, 11-3) in the last-eight game that lasted 24 minutes.The NSW Bega Open is the first World Event of the 2025/26 PSA Squash Tour season. Indian golfer Aditi Ashok makes cut in Portland
PORTLAND, Aug 16: Indian golfer Aditi Ashok made the cut at the Standard Portland Classic on the LPGA after an action-packed second round of 2-under 70, here.Aditi had five birdies and three bogeys in her 70 and is now Tied-27th at the halfway stage with an aggregate of 5-under for two days.Indian-American Gurleen Kaur (65-68) is still Tied-second while Savannah Grewal, a Canadian with Indian origins is T-11 with cards of 69-67.Korea’s Jeongeun Lee5 shot a 6-under 67 to take the lead while 65-year-old Juli Inkster fell short in her bid to become the oldest player to make a cut in LPGA Tour history.Lee5, the 36-year-old South Korean player, had a 12-under 132 total at Columbia Edgewater. Winless on the LPGA Tour, she birdied the final five holes on her front nine in the morning round.Inkster, the Hall of Famer who won the 1999 event, followed her opening 69 with a 74 to miss the cut by a stroke.Grace Kim of Australia and Gurleen of the United States were a stroke back on the tree-lined course. Kim had a 65, and Gurleen shot 68 and both were 11-under.Akie Iwai had her second straight 67 to join Pajaree Anannarukarn (67) and Ashleigh Buhai (68) at 10 under.First-round leader Adela Cernousek followed her opening 64 with a 75 to drop to 5 under and was T-27.
