TURA, Aug 18: The Department of Horticulture, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Tura Campus, in collaboration with the All Garo Hills Multipurpose Co Op society organised a capacity building programme on ‘ICAR-IIHR Technologies for Strengthening Production of Horticultural Crops in the North Eastern Himalayan Region’ at Chotto Bollanggre, Purakhasia in South West Garo Hills, for around 250 farmers from the area.
Chief guest Ian Botham k Sangma, Salmanpara MLA, in the presence of local MDC Rakesh K Sangma, Fr Dr Sunny Joseph, secretary of AGHMPCS, distributed the ARKA vegetable seed kit provided by the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Hessarghatta, Bengaluru, for strengthening the livelihood and Nutritional security to about 250 farmers of the region.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest highlighted the growth of Garo Hills in production and export of various horticultural commodities Meanwhile, Fr Dr Sunny Joseph, AGHMPCS secretary, hailed the chief minister’s initiatives on Cashew and Pineapple processing as well as the presence of various dignitaries.
