Psephologist Sanjay Kumar booked

NAGPUR, Aug 20: Nagpur district police on Wednesday registered an FIR against psephologist Sanjay Kumar on charges of “false statement in connection with an election” after he alleged a rise in voter numbers in two assembly segments in Maharashtra polls compared to the 2024 general elections.Kumar’s post had claimed a significant increase in voter numbers in two assembly seats compared to the 2024 general elections, which were held nearly six months apart. He later deleted it on Tuesday and in another post, apologised for posting “erroneous data” on the microblogging platform.An FIR was registered against Kumar on a complaint lodged by the tehsildar of Ramtek, police said.He was booked under sections 175 (False statement in connection with an election), 353 (1) B (Statements conducting to public mischief), 212 (providing false information to a public servant), and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. Building collapse in Delhi kills 3 workers

NEW DELHI, Aug 20: Three workers were killed after a portion of a building that was being demolished collapsed near Sadbhavna Park in central Delhi’s Daryaganj on Wednesday, officials said.The deceased were identified as Zubair (24), his uncle Taufiq (32), and Gulsagar (30). As many as 15 people were working there when the incident occurred.“Zubair and Taufiq were on the second floor when a portion of it collapsed. Gulsagar rushed in to save the duo, but he too got trapped underneath the debris as the rest of the portion came down,” a senior police officer said.All three were pulled out of the debris and taken to a hospital, where doctors declared them dead. Class 10 student killed by junior

AHMEDABAD, Aug 20: A class 10 student of a private school in Ahmedabad was stabbed to death allegedly by his junior after a minor scuffle, following which a mob vandalised the school on Wednesday, police said.The student was stabbed on Tuesday and died during treatment later at night.On Wednesday, a mob ransacked the Seventh Day Adventist School premises and thrashed its staffThe minor accused has been detained, the minister said and appealed to the people to maintain peace.“A class 9 student murdered a class 10 student at Seventh Day School in Ahmedabad, which is an unfortunate incident and a red signal for a civilised society,” Pansheriya said in a video message.The police were conducting a probe into the incident, he added.
