Shillong, Aug 20: Two individuals, including a BSF jawan, were seriously injured in an LPG cylinder blast at Umpling Lumdiengmet at around 10 pm on Tuesday.
The injured were identified as BSF jawan Sandeep Kumar (30) and Subham Cheran Momin (30), who were residing in rented accommodations on the ground floor of the same building.
Initially, they were rushed to the BSF hospital at the Umpling campus. However, they were later shifted to NEIGRIHMS for further treatment. According to reports, the condition of the BSF jawan is stable.
Meanwhile, family members of the injured civilian have taken him to Guwahati for advanced medical care.
East Khasi Hills SP, Vivek Syiem informed that the information was received telephonically regarding a blast near BSF Umpling Gate.
On inquiry, it was found that the blast occurred in the portion of the private building rented by Momin.
The SP informed that the kitchen and bedroom walls of Momin’s rented portion were damaged in addition to the inner partition wall and the adjoining room of the BSF jawan.
Syiem said that Bomb Disposal Squad inspected the scene after which the incident was classified as an aerosol blast due to leakage from a domestic cooking gas cylinder.
