SHILLONG, Aug 22: Following the recent incident of skirmishes at Maikhuli village in Ri-Bhoi along the Assam-Meghalaya interstate border, Chief Secretary Donald P. Wahlang held a detailed meeting with his Assam counterpart, Ravi Kota to discuss the issue.
Both the chief secretaries discussed at length the situation in the border areas and concluded the meeting with a resolution that maintenance of peace and tranquility is paramount in the present scenario.
Tension flared along the Assam-Meghalaya border in Maikhuli village after locals dismantled electric poles allegedly erected illegally by the Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) within Meghalaya’s territory.
The incident quickly escalated into a confrontation between villagers from both states, leading to physical altercations, including assaults involving women from either side.
