59th AWWA Day celebrated in city

SHILLONG, Aug 23: A slew of activities marked the 59th Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) Day in Shillong, celebrating the spirit of solidarity, compassion and empowerment that AWWA has championed since its inception in 1966.
The week-long celebrations featured a Walkathon and a Har Ghar Tiranga Bike Rally, culminating in cultural programmes, felicitation ceremonies, health camps, motivational talks and exhibitions.
Special emphasis was placed on initiatives for education, skill development and welfare of Veer Naris, special children, and families of serving as well as retired personnel.
Speaking on the occasion, the association’s regional president Nivedita Malik highlighted the pivotal role of the association in strengthening the welfare fabric of the Army fraternity.
She lauded members for their selfless contributions towards community development, women’s empowerment and child welfare.
