SHILLONG, Aug 25: Tura MP Saleng A. Sangma has criticised the NPP-led MDA Government for “pushing” the state back to the days of militancy.
He stated that report on the revival of militancy in Meghalaya is a concern for every citizen.
“People were being killed in front of their families earlier,” he said while adding that the previous Congress-led Government had wiped out militancy from Meghalaya and had bought peace in the state.
Slamming the government for pushing back the youths to militancy, he said that that it is the fault of the state government as they just keep on talking about big things and resorting to gimmicks.
Concerned over the situation, Sangma said he had already petitioned the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister on the issue.
It may be noted that DGP Idashisha Nongrang had confirmed that rebel outfits were making fresh attempts to recruit and regroup, raising concerns about a possible resurgence of militancy after years of relative calm.
Police have refused to share details on the scale of recruitment and the specific group being formed.
