JOWAI, Aug 27: Jrisaleiñ playground, located in the heart of Jowai town and regarded as a landmark, has long served as a vital space for local youths to engage in sports and other community activities, and over the years it has hosted a wide range of events, including Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations, exhibitions, community festivals, sports tournaments, traditional programs, and even served as a parking space during large gatherings in Jowai town.
In the wake of its significance, a meeting was convened by Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla on Wednesday at the office of the Jowai Municipal Board (JMB) to address the need for proper upkeep and beautification of the playground, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Dorbar Shnong Chutwakhu. The playground is owned by the Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Jowai.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Dorbar Shnong Chutwakhu, leaders of the Challam clan, authorities of the Government Boys’ HSS, district officials, and members of the PWD department.
During his visit to the ground, Shylla told the press that there is an urgent need to improve and beautify the Jrisaleiñ playground in response to public demand. “The most important step in improving this ground is to construct a gallery and install fencing along the side facing the main road. If possible, fencing will also be extended around the entire playground,” Shylla said.
He said that the concerned department will prepare the necessary estimates, while the Challam clan and the Government Boys’ HSS will take steps to provide the required documents to higher authorities, ensuring that the improvement and beautification work can begin at the earliest.
