Centre sanctions Rs 1,241 crore for AMPT Road

SHILLONG, Aug 28: The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has sanctioned Rs 1,241 crore for construction of the AMPT Road from Chibinang to Tura. The road will be two-lane with paved shoulders.
Responding to a complaint from the BJP about the poor condition of the Agia, Medhipara, Phulbari, and Tura (AMPT) Road, the Ministry said that the stretch from Phulbari (near Chibinang) to Tura is notified as NH-127B. The road with length of approximately 63 km is being taken up for development to two lanes with paved shoulder configuration in two packages through JICA funding.
Package-I of length 31.50 km with a total cost of Rs 737 crore is under bidding process while work on Package-II of 31.72 km with a total cost of Rs 504 crore has commenced, the Ministry said.
The work in both packages is likely to be completed by 2027.
