SHILLONG, Aug 28: Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Kyrmen Shylla on Thursday emphasised the need for proper drainage on roads and highways to address concerns of flash floods and water logging. The statement from the minister came a day after massive flooding occurred on the Jorabat-Byrnihat stretch of NH-6.
The minister himself was stuck in a massive traffic jam in Byrnihat area on Wednesday evening during heavy downpour. He said the engineers are trying their best to minimise the challenges of natural calamity.
Shylla stated that the department is always ready to provide assistance during calamities, but stressed on the need for proper drainage.
Asked about the water logging problems in Shillong, Shylla said the department will take suggestions from all concerned to address the issue, even as he urged the authorities to go for proper drainage wherever possible.
