JOWAI, Aug 28: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) MDCs from the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), led by MDC Awhai Andrew Shullai, on Thursday met the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaiñtia Hills, who is also the Chairman of the District Selection Committee (DSC), to raise concerns over the clash of exam dates between the DSC and Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) written examinations.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Shullai questioned the lack of coordination between the DSC and MPSC, despite both offices functioning from the same building, the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Jowai.
He added that several civil society organisations had already lodged complaints about the issue, yet the authorities failed to address it. “After receiving numerous grievances from the youths appearing for these exams, the VPP has stepped forward to raise this matter again, so such a situation doesn’t repeat in the future,” Shullai said.
Highlighting the issue further, he questioned why both DSC and MPSC, which require candidates to be graduates, could not consider conducting exams for different categories, such as technical line courses, to avoid such scheduling conflicts.
Meanwhile, MDC Jamshaphrang Pohtam pointed out that in today’s world of widespread unemployment, many youths are desperate to apply for any job opportunity that arises.
“When the government opens doors with one hand, why should it shut them with the other?” he asked, referring to the exam date clash.
He further appealed for transparency and fairness in the recruitment process, emphasising that selection should be clean and merit-based.
