SHILLONG, Aug 30: The state government on Saturday sought time to take a considered decision on the future course of action regarding the Tura Medical College and Hospital (TMCH) amid ongoing discussions on whether the facility will be operated on a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Health Minister and MDA spokesperson Ampareen Lyngdoh emphasised that Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma is directly involved in the matter.
Pressure groups from Garo Hills, including the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People, Association for Democracy and Empowerment, A’chik Youth Welfare Organisation, Garo Students’ Union, and Federation for A’chik Freedom, have voiced their objection to the PPP model and stressed that the facility must remain dedicated to public welfare.
Lyngdoh informed that the state government has received a communication from the National Medical Commission that the Shillong Medical College and Hospital will become operational when the NMC places the SMCH in its next round of counselling.
