FIR against 6 for ‘ragging’, ‘thrashing’ junior in college
Ramgarh, Aug 31: An FIR has been lodged against six students for allegedly ragging and thrashing a first-year engineering student in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district, police said on Sunday. The incident happened at Ramgarh Engineering College (REC) at Murubanda village under Rajrappa police station limits. A first-year BTech student was allegedly thrashed by second-year engineering students on Saturday after he filed a complaint of ragging with the National Anti Ragging Cell (NARC), they said. The victim is undergoing treatment at Sadar hospital in Ramgarh, a police officer said. (PTI)
HAL likely to deliver 2 Tejas Mark-1A jets next month
New Delhi, Aug 31: Two Tejas Mark-1A fighter jets are likely to be delivered next month by the state-run aerospace major Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), Defence Secretary R K Singh has said. Singh said on Saturday that the government is likely to ink a fresh contract with HAL for procuring an additional batch of 97 Tejas jets after the delivery of the two aircraft. The Indian Air Force (IAF) had flagged concerns over delays in the delivery of the Tejas Mark 1A jets under a previous contract. “Hopefully, the first two of those will be delivered with weapons integration by the end of September,” Singh said at the NDTV Defence Summit. The defence secretary said about 38 Tejas jets are already in service and another 80-odd are being manufactured. (PTI)
BKI-backed terror module busted; two held
Chandigarh, Aug 31: The Punjab Police on Sunday said it has busted a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI)-backed terror module and thwarted major disruptive activities in the state with the arrest of its two operatives. The module was busted by the Counter Intelligence (CI) teams, as well as the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar. DGP Gaurav Yadav said the arrested have been identified as Sarwan Kumar, a resident of Malhian village in Gurdaspur and Balwinder Singh, a resident of Jakkriya in Gurdaspur. During a search, police teams recovered a hand grenade and a pistol along with three live cartridges from their possession. The development came in less than a week after CI Pathankot averted a target killing by busting a module of the same network with the four members, including two juveniles and recovered two pistols from their possession. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were working on the directions of their foreign-based handlers, who are allegedly backed by the BKI. They were introduced to these handlers by an intermediary, Yadav said. (PTI)
