BJP MLA’s brother arrested for ‘derogatory’ remarks against CM Yogi

GORAKHPUR, Sep 1: Posting “derogatory” remarks against UP CM Yogi Adityanath and his OSD on social media has landed BJP MLA Mahendra Pal Singh’s brother Bholendra Pal Singh in police custody.After an extensive manhunt, police arrested Bholendra from a hotel.A group of people gathered to protest against Bholendra, demanding strict action against him. Within three days of the controversial post, six FIRs were registered against Bholendra, whose brother Mahendra is the two-time sitting MLA from Pipraich in Gorakhpur district. On Thursday, Bholendra uploaded an objectionable Facebook post targeting the chief minister and his OSD, while also referring to a land dispute and naming a legislator.Though the post was later deleted, its screenshots had gone viral.During a raid at Bholendra’s brick kiln, police recovered a large quantity of spurious liquor, which was videographed.Data from his mobile phone and other sources are being examined to trace his associates. Amid strained ties, India-US military exercise to be held in Alaska

NEW DELHI, Sep 1: Military contingents from India and the US will engage in a spectrum of tactical drills, including the integrated use of artillery, aviation and electronic warfare systems, as part of a bilateral exercise in Alaska, beginning September 1, officials said.The 14-day ‘India-US Exercise Yudh Abhyas 2025’ is set to take place amid strained ties between New Delhi and Washington over US President Donald Trump’s policies on trade and tariff.The drills, which will also involve heliborne operations, will be held from September 1-14.The Indian contingent, comprising personnel from a battalion of the Madras Regiment, will train alongside soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment ‘Bobcats’ of the Arctic Wolves Brigade Combat Team, 11th Airborne Division of the US, the Indian defence ministry said in a statement. Woman tries to break ATM for education fees of nephew, arrested

JABALPUR, (MP) Sep 1: A 24-year-old woman allegedly tried to break a cash chest at an ATM with a rod, apparently to pay fees for her nephew, who risked expulsion from his school in Jabalpur, leading to her arrest. The investigation stemmed from a complaint received by the police on Saturday night about an unsuccessful attempt to damage an ATM in Sanjeevani Nagar area .Police traced and arrested the woman through a CCTV camera grab.“She told police that she lived in Mathura with her husband. She had come to her sister’s house in Sanjeevani Nagar, where she learnt that her nephew, a class 11 student, risked expulsion from school due to non-payment of fees. She then took him along to the ATM to attempt the theft,” police said.A court on Monday remanded the woman in judicial custody, while the teenage boy was sent to a correctional home, police said.Police recovered a rod, a spanner, and other tools from the woman’s possession.
