TURA, Sep 1: The All Garo Hills Primary School Teachers Association (AGHPSTA) has sought the setting up of two new separate educational facilities in Garo Hills — one at Williamnagar in East Garo Hills and the other at Chokpot in South Garo Hills.
In its memorandum submitted on August 31 to Chief minister Conrad sangma, the association sought the setting up of a District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) at Williamnagar and the office of the Sub-Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO) under Chokpot Civil Sub-Division.
The teachers body felt that while the setting up of the DIET would provide access to quality teacher training, enable skill upgradation of in service teachers, improve quality of education and generate job opportunities to the youth, the SDSEO Office would ensure timely and efficient administration of schools, reduce the burden on teachers and serve both the teachers and the general public.
“We believe that these institutions are crucial for strengthening teacher education and ensuring effective school administration. We hope that you will give due consideration to the demand for the betterment of education and welfare of the people of Garo Hills,” the teachers’ body added.
