Mumbai, Sep 1: The seventh edition of the Tennis Premier League will be held in Ahmedabad from December 9-14 at the Gujarat University Stadium. Mahanaryaman Scindia elected youngest president of MPCA

Indore, Sep 1: Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia’s son and Gwalior Division Cricket Association vice-president Mahanaryaman Scindia was on Monday unanimously elected president of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA), an official said. The 29-year-old member of the erstwhile Gwalior royal family has become the youngest chief of the MPCA, established in 1957, and is a third-generation royal to head the cricket body, he said. The MPCA’s chief administrative officer, Rohit Pandit, said that all posts were filled unopposed in the association’s elections. The newly elected executive will be formally ratified during the annual general meeting on Tuesday, after which office-bearers will assume charge, he said. Pandit said the new executive includes Vineet Sethia as vice-president, Sudhir Asnani as secretary, Arundhati Kherkire as joint secretary and Sanjeev Dua as treasurer. The Scindia family has held sway over the cricket administration in the state for decades. Mahanaryaman’s late grandfather, Madhavrao Scindia, and his father, Jyotiraditya Scindia, also served as MPCA presidents. Following the Lodha Committee recommendations, Jyotiraditya Scindia and senior administrator Sanjay Jagdale had to step down from MPCA posts in January 2017 as both had completed more than nine years in the managing committee, making them ineligible to continue (PTI)

Ashwin in talks with ILT20 to add his name in auctions: Reports

New Delhi, Sep 1: Having retired from all forms of Indian cricket, spin great Ravichandran Ashwin has now confirmed his interest in being part of the auctions for the next edition of ILT20, which will be held in the UAE from December 2 to January 4, 2026. Ashwin, who will turn 39 in another couple of weeks, had recently announced his retirement from the IPL, which has now made him eligible to play in franchise-based T20 leagues across the globe. India’s second-highest wicket-taker across formats with 765 scalps from 287 international games, will be the most high-profile name to play in a global league outside IPL if any franchise happens to pick him at the auctions. “Yes, I am in talks with the organisers. Hopefully, I will have a buyer if I register for the auction,” Ashwin was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. The auction is scheduled to take place on September 30 in Dubai and registration for the same will be completed by September 10. This is the first time that ILT20 will have an auction as it followed the Draft System to pick players during earlier seasons. (PTI)

Overton announces indefinite break from red-ball cricket

London, Sep 1: England pacer Jamie Overton on Monday announced an indefinite break from red-ball cricket as he no longer finds it possible to “commit fully to all formats”. The 31-year-old, who has played just two Test matches – the most recent of them against India at the Oval in a five-match home series that ended 2-2, made the announcement on X. “After a great deal of thought, I have decided to take an indefinite break from red-ball cricket,” Overton said. “At this stage of my career, with the demands of cricket across a 12-month calendar, it’s no longer possible to commit fully to all formats at every level, both physically and mentally. “Going forward, my focus will be on white-ball cricket, and I will continue to give everything to play at the highest level for as long as I can,” he added. Overton has appeared in just six ODIs and 12 T20 Internationals in his nascent international career that began in 2022. His decision to put his first-class career on hold could be down to freeing up his calender to be available for T20 leagues globally. (PTI)
