SHILLONG, Sep 2: Commemorating the 63rd Foundation Day of the college, Sankardev College also celebrated its Graduation Day for the recently passed out postgraduate and undergraduate students of the institution. Commissioner and Secretary, Education department, Vijay Kumar Mantri, served as chief guest of the occasion, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, RM Kurbah, Executive Engineer, MSPCB, Wanshan Kharkrang, Director, MSSAT, Jonathan Pyngrope, besides members of the college’s governing body, representatives from the various internship providing organisations, invitees and students of the college.
The chief guest presented the Academic Award of Excellence to Prarthana Phukan, who secured 5th position in Sociology, and Kong Sarmu, who secured 10th position in History in the recent NEHU Under-Graduate examinations. Altogether 190 passed students were also presented with citations.
The chief guest also released a book titled Dynamics of Teaching written by Prof TK Kharbamon, Vice Chancellor of Martin Luther Christian University, who is also a member of the Governing Body of the college.
The teaching and non-teaching staff, who have completed 25 years of service, were also felicitated. They include Dr RJ Cunville, Department of Education; Rudolph Blah, David Shabong and Edward Dkhar, all office staff; and B Lyngdoh, Librarian. Certificate of commendations were also awarded to Joy Singha, an NCC cadet and Mewanshwa Sohlang, a student of the English Department. The chief guest also awarded Certificates of Recognition to faculty members who have excelled in their areas of research and professional activities, namely Dr Ridaphun Nongrum, Esther Tariang, Dr Pynsuklin Syiemiong, Dr Walter Thabah, Dr Egira Shadap, Dr Dawanisa Dhar, Evarilang Tariang, Ruth Kharbamon, Bulsilian L Mawphlang and Steve ZR Marak.
Vijay Kumar Mantri, in his speech, lauded the efforts of the College in rendering wholesome education to the student community. He was appreciative and impressed with its many achievements, the different programs held that were meaningful and relevant to the day and also recognized the talented and dedicated faculty of the College.
The College Principal, Dr Eureka FP Lyngdoh, delivered the welcome address.
A video presentation followed which documented the 63 years journey of the College highlighting its history, the milestones achieved and the various academic and co curricular activities conducted. The president of the Governing Body, Prof P Nongkynrih, in her address, congratulated the students for bringing laurels to the College. A short documentary on the experiences of the students in the recently concluded internship programmes was also screened.
Altogether, 235 students successfully interned with 25 Internship Providing Organizations. The IPOs were also acknowledged and their representatives were felicitated by the chief guest.
