SHILLONG, Sep 3: North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum on Wednesday fulfilled his earlier promise of rewarding anyone who could provide accurate information on the alleged syringe attack on a minor girl near the Bible Society of India, Jaiaw, on August 18.
Nongrum visited Lumdiengjri police station to meet Officer-in-Charge Victoria Tariang, where he expressed gratitude and appreciation to the police for their prompt investigation, which ultimately confirmed that the incident had never taken place. The alleged case had triggered widespread concern and anxiety among the public.
Speaking to reporters, Nongrum recalled that during his hospital visit on August 19 to meet the girl, he had pledged to offer Rs 10,000 to anyone providing credible information on those involved and Rs 20,000 for leads resulting in their arrest.
However, as clarified by East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem, the police investigation confirmed that no one was involved in the alleged incident.
In light of this, the MLA handed over a token amount of Rs 10,000 to the Officer-in-Charge as a gesture of encouragement for the police’s dedication and hard work.
Nongrum further remarked that deception or concealment cannot endure forever, adding that the truth will always come to light.
