TURA, Sep 3: The Non Gazetted Employees’ Association (NGEA) of the GHADC has rejected outright the offer for the payment of 5 months’ salaries to the agitating employees to call off their protest. Further, Tura is all set to see a massive public rally undertaken with the support of various civil society organisations (CSOs) of the Garo Hills region on Thursday.
According to the president of NGEA, Brithen Sangma, the offer of 5 months’ salary was made yesterday through an order by the secretary to the GHADC. “We are unwilling to accept the offer and our protest will continue,” he said while asserting their demand for the clearance of all dues will stand.
Currently the employees of the GHADC are due to be paid 44 months of salary with the protest beginning more than 2 months ago.
The protest has been joined by various CSOs including GSU, AHAM, ACHIK, AAYF, GSU NEHU CELL, ANYO, NGCO, APE, FKJGP, ADE, AYWO, FAF among others with the opposition MDCs also providing support.
The rally is expected to begin at 10:30 am and continue till 2 pm.
